Impasto

The most striking aspect of the design for Impasto lies not only in the layout of the exhibition space, the interplay of solid and glazed sections of the counter, or the latticework of wall-mounted shelves that climbs up to the ceiling; it lies above all in the transparency of the slender glass panels enclosing the workshop, through which one can see the work and dedication of people who have devoted their lives to one of the most beautiful crafts in the world. Impasto benefits from an outdoor space ‘protected’ by a number of flowerbeds, which we sought to enhance by introducing lush greenery and a simple yet striking lighting design. The interior is characterised by linear, minimalist elements that do not detract from the true stars of the shop – the products – but succeed in creating a dynamic and engaging architectural backdrop. Pastel colours guide guests through the various functional areas and help to create the perfect atmosphere for a quick purchase, a break or a moment of conviviality. The main area is dedicated to retail; the bread stands out against the black and white, whilst a sage green guides us towards the patisserie and the café. The geometric simplicity of the retail area gives way to a progressive breakdown of the counter into several staggered sections and the appearance of a modular wall system that incorporates shelves, lamps and panels of preserved greenery. The toilets retain the pastel colours of the rest of the premises, whilst wood takes the form of shelves, furnishings and accessories. The lighting, distinctly contemporary, takes on a technical character in the form of track spotlights, light panels and spotlights, which blend perfectly with the artisanal, almost industrial character of the workshop area, where everything has been designed down to the millimetre to optimise the production process without compromising on aesthetics
