The central section has been entirely gutted to make way for the impressive panoramic kitchen and dining area, dominated by the raised study. From here, one can admire the building’s structural framework, crowned by wooden trusses that appear to float above the walls. Through the large glass wall that has replaced the farmhouse’s characteristic gabled façade, the view stretches for kilometres across the eastern flank of the Iblean plateau, dotted with olive and carob trees and punctuated here and there by rocky outcrops. Wood, stone and iron – building materials drawn from tradition and reinterpreted in a contemporary key – define each space, enhanced to the full by the delicate use of light, which caresses the surfaces and their various materials. The infinity pool is suspended between earth and sky. As you swim in it, it becomes one with the Mediterranean Sea, even though it lies kilometres away.
Casale Mirari
Nestled amongst the rolling hills of the Iblean countryside, the Mirari farmhouse stands once more in all its marvellous austerity, overlooking the boundless rural landscape stretching all the way to the sea. The restoration of the farmhouse has breathed new life into a gem of the Ragusa countryside that was in danger of being left to fall into disrepair. Its rooms, some of them majestic, have been transformed into a luxurious contemporary residence that strikes a perfect balance between tradition and the rich history of the place where it stands.
